Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, you can! Most people can schedule an appointment directly with an audiologist without needing a referral from their primary care provider. This process is called self-referral. However, some insurance plans (especially Medicare) may still require a referral for coverage, so it’s a good idea to check with your insurance provider first.
If you are using Medicare and want the test to be considered for payment, a referral from your doctor is required. That’s because Medicare only covers diagnostic hearing tests when they are considered medically necessary and ordered by a physician.
Hearing loss is diagnosed through a series of painless tests conducted by an audiologist. These tests measure how well you hear different tones, volumes, and speech in various environments. The audiologist will explain your results in detail and discuss personalized options for treatment, such as hearing aids or further medical evaluation if needed.
The best hearing aid for you depends on your level of hearing loss, your daily routine, and your preferences. An audiologist will guide you through the options, considering factors like ease of use, comfort, style, and technology features such as Bluetooth or rechargeability. Your hearing aid should fit your hearing needs, your lifestyle, and your budget.

Hearing loss often develops slowly, so many people don’t notice it right away. You might have hearing loss if you:

  • Frequently ask others to repeat themselves
  • Struggle to follow conversations in noise
  • Increase the volume on the TV or phone
  • Feel like others are mumbling
  • Miss high-pitched sounds like birds or children
  • Notice ringing in your ears (tinnitus)
  • Feel mentally drained after social interactions

If these signs sound familiar, scheduling a hearing test is a great next step. Early intervention leads to better outcomes and an improved quality of life.

Reconnect with life through better hearing.

At Flatirons Audiology, we’re here to help you hear your best. Whether you’ve noticed a change in your hearing or just want a check-up, we’ll give you the answers and support you need.
